Did you decorate with artificial snow this holiday season? Well, the time has come to clean it up, now that the holidays are over. But before you make an even bigger mess trying to clean it up, than you did when you sprayed it on in the first place, try these 3 easy tips to get the job done.
(Because artificial snow is mainly used to decorate the glass in windows and doors, these 3 tips focus on getting it cleaned off those surfaces.)
Tip #1: Protect the Surrounding Area from Wet Artificial Snow
Before you start cleaning you need to protect the surrounding area by laying out sheets or tarps, especially on the ground. This is needed because once you start cleaning the artificial snow off, the dry particles with drop to the ground and get into any crevice they can find. And wet artificial snow will stain any surface it drips on, leaving an additional mess for you to clean after you get the glass finished.
Tip #2: Vacuum Artificial Snow First
After you have protected the area, but before you try to clean off the glass, take the vacuum cleaner and vacuum up any loose artificial snow that you can. The more snow you can get up with the vacuum cleaner, the less you will have to try to wash up next.
You might also want to vacuum up the ground area under where you decorated with the artificial snow; before you put down the sheets or tarps in Tip #1. Just in case some loose particles fell off after you sprayed the snow or during the holiday season.
Tip #3: Use Window Cleaner on the Artificial Snow
Finally, it is time to attack the bulk of the artificial snow on the glass. Instead of making a mess and scraping it off like so many other people do, spray the artificial snow with glass cleaner. You can use any glass cleaner, but window cleaner in an aerosol can stays in place better and you don’t have to worry about dripping.
After the cleaner has been applied, take a paper towel and rub the cleaner into the artificial snow until it starts to come off. When the paper towel starts to spread the snow around more than wiping it off, throw away that towel and use a new paper towel. Continue to spray and wipe the artificial snow off until the glass is completely cleaned.
