The arrival of the cooler, autumn air not only means that it is time for the leaves on the trees to start changing color, it also means that it is time for the birds to start migrating. Birds on the move rest in places that you may have not seen them previously, which also means bird messes in places you are not used to.
If you find yourself this year’s favorite bird rest stop or you have a bird problem that extends beyond migration time, here are some tips to help keep your home and windows cleaner.
Deter Birds from Windows
If you don’t like cleaning up bird droppings from your windows, then prevent the mess in the first place by deterring birds from using the area around your windows as a resting place. You can do this by using one of the many different products on the market today that are designed to convince Tweedy to perch elsewhere.
For example, you can spread a special gel in the areas that you find the birds are particularly fond. This gel won’t dry and will turn into a sticky mess the birds can’t stand being in. After one landing in the gel, the birds will remember not to come back.
You can also try bird spikes which will completely remove the comfortable landing surface, or sound emitters that will drive the birds away from your home.
No Window Bird Feeders
If you want birds to stay away from your windows, then don’t entice them there with food. Having a bird feeder next to your window is not usually a good idea if you are also trying to keep the birds from flying into your glass; which will create another mess that is just as bad as the bird droppings.
So if you want a season free of worrying about cleaning up after birds just remember these two things:
- Make their stay with you uncomfortable
- Don’t invite them to your house with food
Before you know it, they will be avoiding your home and visiting your neighbors instead.
