Using an old window as the base of a candle centerpiece adds a rustic touch to it. Also, if you leave some or all of the glass showing, it will add to the glow of the piece by reflecting additional light.
With these candle centerpieces you are more than welcome to use real wax candles to light, but you may find that using the new flameless candles are less messy and much safer. Flameless candles are lit with a battery-powered, small bulb, instead of a flame.
If you are doing this for a fall table decoration, in the center of the pane of glass place a leaf or a small square of fall fabric. No matter which one you use, they need to be smaller than the pane, so that some of the glass is still showing.
Next, add a tea light on the top of where the frame intersects, including around the edges. Turn on the candles and you have a simple, but fun centerpiece.
Old Windows and Pillar Candles
In the center of each old window pane place a single pillar candle. You can use whatever height you want, but the 3-inch ones will look the best with this project. Also, the candles need to be the regular sized pillars in terms of width, so that the candle doesn’t take up all the space on the glass pane.
Next, around the candle and within the frame of the pane, place dried beans, or small, glass rocks to enhance the look of the centerpiece.
If you are using a 3 pane, old window feel free to put a candle in each pane. However, if you are using an old window with 6-8 panes do not put a candle in each pane, unless you vary the size of the candles. Otherwise, only utilize half of the panes and alternate where you place the candles.
Pumpkins, Vases, and Old Windows
As we get a little more elaborate with our old windows, we start to add more to them. With this one, we will be using vases, pumpkins, dried beans, and pillar candles.
To start, place some dried pinto beans, lentils, black-eyed peas or any other bean that has color into the vase. On top of the beans, snuggly place the pillar candle. Assuming that you are using a 6 pane window, you are going to create 3 vases and put them in alternating panes on the old window.
In the panes that do not have a vase, pour the same type of beans that you used in the vase directly on the glass. Next, place a mini pumpkin on top of the dried beans in the pane.
Finally, light the candles and enjoy the candle centerpiece you just created from recycling an old window.
