Warmer weather is here and windows are getting opened for the first time in a long time. It’s nice to be able to get some fresh air flowing through the house once again, isn’t it?
But, when you opened your windows for the first time this season, what did you find? Were they dirty from all the winter grim? Were they damaged from the ice and recent severe weather in the area? Or did you see someone else’s open windows and liked the way they opened better than how yours do?
There are some window damages that you can fix on your own. Things like caulking that has come loose or paint that is chipping off are easily weekend projects.

Windows that Need to Be Cleaned
Giving your windows a good spring cleaning makes the outside of your home look better, the inside of your home look better, and will make you feel better. There is just something about looking out a dirty window that makes one a little depressed, probably because dirty windows stick out thanks to the light shining through them.
Here are some quick tips for clean, spring windows:
- For outside windows – purchase a window cleaner with a cloth head, dip it in a soapy solution and use it to scrub your windows. Squeegee dry.
- For inside windows – spray window cleaner on window and clean from the top down. Polish glass with old, soft t-shirt.
Windows That Don’t Open the Same
Windows don’t all open the same way, but until you see different windows open on other people’s homes you may not know this. Some windows swing open from the bottom and others swing open from the top. Some windows open sideways and others open vertically.
