Renewal by Andersen® windows have been engineered to require as little maintenance as possible, thanks to their durable Fibrex® frames and glass packages. However, that doesn’t mean that your windows don’t need any cleaning to look their best.

In this post, window company Renewal by Andersen of Louisville/Lexington provides a step-by-step guide to help you properly clean your casement windows.

Step 1: Removing Insect Screens

Every Renewal by Andersen window comes with a lightweight insect screen that can easily be removed for cleaning. To remove the screen, simply release the latches on the screen side jambs and grip the insect screen tightly to avoid dropping it. Push the insect screen outward to clear the sill by tilting it away and then pulling it inside.

Step 2: Removing Grilles

Before getting started on cleaning your windows, you need to remove the grilles. To do so, simply lift the edge of the grille legs away from the glass at the edge of the sash. Avoid pulling on the grille intersections to prevent damage.

Step 3: Cleaning the Glass

Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe away the dust and grime that's accumulated on the glass. Once you’ve done that, apply a mild cleaning solution like soap water or diluted vinegar to the glass and wipe it away with a clean, lint-free cloth. Avoid using newspaper to clean your replacement windows as this can discolor the Fibrex material. Avoid using paper towels as well if the glass has HeatLock Technology.

Step 4: Fibrex Components

When cleaning your Fibrex frames, simply apply a mild cleaning solution of soap and water on the material. Afterwards, wipe it down with a soft, non-abrasive rag or brush.

Step 5: Moving Parts

To ensure your casement windows continue operating properly, vacuum or dust any debris that's collected on the window sills and tracks.
