Window Pumpkin

Vintage Halloween decorations are quite the thing right now, and you can make your own vintage Halloween decoration by simply using an old window.

Where can you get one of these windows? You can find them at construction thrift stores, antique stores, and right off your own home when you purchase replacement windows from us at either the Louisville or the Lexington Showrooms.Vintage Louisville Window FramesThis is not the type of window frame that you are thinking of, this is actually a picture frame made from a vintage window.First, take a heavy piece of black cloth and staple it to the backside of the window frame. You will want to staple all down the sides, across the bottom, up and down the grills that separate the individual panes of glass, as well as across them. Each individual pane of glass is going to hold a picture and with the way you just stapled the cloth to the window you just created the pockets that the pictures are going to go in to.Second, cut a slit in the fabric just above each pane of glass. This slit is where you are going to slide the picture in and out of, so it needs to be large enough for a photo to fit through. Also you will want to cut the slit high enough that you can’t see it through the front of the glass. There should be no slits needed for the top row of glass as you didn’t staple the top of the frame.Third, decorate the outside however you wish with paint and little Halloween décor. Finally, fill with Halloween pictures of your family and hang on the wall.Vintage Window Card HolderFor the window card holder, find vintage Halloween cards in the store. You could also print them off from online, but the ones in the store look better.Cut these cards so that it is just the front with the picture on it, and then tape them to the grills between the window panes so that the picture is showing out of the glass. You can attach a backing to the back of the window to cover up the individual cards that are taped back there, but that is up to you.Decorate the outside of the window frame, and hang on the wall to enjoy for the season.
