A window shadow is a simple black figure in your window that can be a ghost, a witch, Halloween character, or any creepy Halloween scene. A shadow scene can be a whole scene where the main elements are in black. It can also be the reverse, where the background is in black and the main elements are lit from light coming through them from the inside of your home.Window shadows can be made from any black material. For example, you could use heavy black cloth, black construction paper, and even black trash bags.An easier way to get a shadow in your window though, is to purchase one at the store. These store bought window shadows are usually made from vinyl and stick right on your window glass. And don’t worry about not being able to find one, these particular Halloween decorations have become very popular in recent years and can be found just about anywhere.What Window Shadow Should I Use?What shadow you use is really up to the size of your windows. For smaller windows pumpkins, spiders, spider webs, and small ghosts work well. These elements are not large and can fit in a small window at the same proportionate size that they usually are in real life.Larger windows are great for full-size monsters, witches and full Halloween scenes.Simple Window ShadowThe easiest window shadow that you can make, if you don’t want to purchase one at the store, is a graveyard scene.To Make:

1. Cut out tombstones from your black material and place them on the bottom of the glass with double-stick tape.
2. Cut out a circle from the black material and attach to the upper part of the glass with double-stick tape.

In just two steps you now have a moonlit graveyard in your window.

Making Your Window Shadows Stick OutTo help your window shadows stick out, string purple or orange Halloween lights on the inside of the windows where they will illuminate the glass. Make sure that you cannot see the bulbs on the light string in the window though, or it will ruin the effect.If you have dark window treatments, hang a white sheet on the inside of the windows so that your shadows can be seen during the day.
