Your windows probably haven’t been cleaned since last summer, so they have 2 season’s worth of dirt and grime on them right now.Once the weather starts to warm up, it would be a good idea to give your windows a thorough cleaning, especially before you start planting underneath your windows or in your window planters.Making it the first thing you do before planting anything under the windows or in your window planters will protect your plants in two ways. First, any runoff of the window cleaning solution that you use to clean the outside of your windows won’t be able to damage your new plants if they haven’t been planted yet. Second, you will be able to move around more freely to clean your windows without having to worry about stepping on new plants.Screen CleaningTo really get a good cleaning on your windows, don’t forget to remove the window screens and clean them as well. Start by rinsing your screen down to get all the loose dirt off. Next take a soft scrub brush, dip it in a soapy solution (a squirt of dishwashing liquid and warm water), and then gently scrub the screen. Finally, rinse off the screens and allow them to dry in the sun while you are cleaning the glass on the windows.Outside Window CleaningThere are a couple different ways to clean the outside of your windows. First, you can use the traditional spray glass cleaner and paper towels, but this method is tedious, time consuming, and almost impossible for high windows.Second, you can purchase the outdoor window cleaner that you attach to a hose and simply spray on your windows. The pressure from the spraying water will help to remove the dirt and the solution will help with the cleaning.Third, purchase a window cleaner with a cloth head, dip it in a soapy solution and use it to scrub your windows. This type of window cleaner has a long handle, so it can be used to reach tall windows and the cloth head won’t damage the glass.Window DryingRegardless of the method that you use to clean your window, the best way to dry it is to use a squeegee. After each squeegee stroke, dry off the blade with a cloth before you apply it to the window again.Once you are done, replace the window screens and enjoy your sparkling clean windows.
