On February 23rd, 2011, A dedication ceremony took place in Buffalo, Kentucky for the new Buffalo School Apartments.

The 19 apartments now occupy the old Buffalo Middle School. Buffalo Middle School served the community for more than 70 years, and educated many generations of local families. After the school's closing nearly five years ago, the community and board of education wanted to maintain the building in some capacity because of its history in the community. But, finding the right use and funding in a down economy was a challenge. It wasn't until preservation Kentucky and AU Associates Inc. of Lexington met, that a viable plan became a reality.Their vision of converting the historic old building into 19 beautiful 1 and 2 bedroom apartments became a reality on February 1st.With Federal Tax Credits providing part of the funding for the project's development and construction costs, it was critical to maintain the structure's architectural integrity. Front and rear elevations required extremely large replacement windows to replicate the old rope and pulley double hung windows in the original openings.AU Construction chose Renewal by Andersen of Louisville to provide and install those large double hung window units.

To replicate the original appearance, special full divided light grilles were required. Special spread mulls were fabricated to dupicate the spacing created by the original weight pockets. Renewal's own factory trained technicians installed (69) large custom-made double hung windows for the project. The windows were made from Renewal by Andersen's exclusive composite material, Fibrex. This pre-finished material did not need to be painted. The windows featured Andersen's High Performance, Low E4, insulating glass. The Buffalo Apartments have brought to life an old historic landmark and Renewal by Andersen was proud to be part of its re-birth.Jay L.
