Here we are heading into the tail end of the winter season, and the time to start planting in your Louisville window boxes again is getting so close. But since we are not quite there yet, let’s still spruce them up and use them in the next coming weeks for Saint Patrick’s Day decorations, instead.(The following ideas can be used as separate decorating ideas or altogether.)

Decorating the Window Box ItselfBrush off the cobwebs, the dead leaves, and whatever else may have attached itself to the outside of your Louisville window box over the winter. Don’t worry about doing anything like staining or painting it, though. It’s still too cold for that, and it can be done at a later time.Instead, what you are going to do is to take a wide piece of St. Patrick’s Day ribbon and staple it across the front of your window box. Anything that has shamrocks, leprechauns, or even just a green pattern will work. Ideally, the point is to just to add a splash of color with the one ribbon across the front, but you can also cover the whole box with multiple strips of ribbon or even stripe the box with ribbon.Decorating Under the Window BoxUnder the window box you can hang different St. Patrick’s Day decorations to give it a fun effect that will catch people’s attention when the wind blows.The simplest idea is to take shiny St. Patrick’s Day beads and drape them along the outer edge under the window box. Another idea that will take more time than the beads is to tie individual shamrocks to one end of a piece of thread and then staple the other end of the thread under the window box.Planting in the Window BoxThere are a number of different things you can put in the flowerbox to add to your St. Patrick’s Day decorating. Since there is most likely nothing growing in your window box at the moment, why not spruce it up with some colorful fake flowers.Because rainbows are also associated with St. Patrick’s Day (the leprechaun hiding its gold at the end of the rainbow), find fake flowers and greenery in the colors of the rainbow and stick them in the dirt of the window box. After they are all arranged, it will look like you are growing a rainbow in your Louisville flower box.
